The Fire Salamander

The nature conservation organization Aufwind is committed to the protection of the endangered fire salamander with a donation. The amphibian species is currently being decimated by the so-called salamander plague, a deadly fungal disease.

To ensure the survival of the species, Aufwind supports the work of the German Society for Herpetology and Terrarial Science (DGHT). The donations will be used to finance measures such as the medical treatment and quarantine of infected animals and the establishment of a backup population. The latter is to form the basis for a reintroduction of the fire salamanders in the Bergisches Land region as soon as long-term healing and immunization against the fungus are possible.
